Saturday, October 01, 2005 When I dragged my carcass out from under the sheets this morning, the temperature outside hovered around 30, patches of light frost scattered around the grass. First frost of the season, at least up here on the hill, but lightweight, having no effect on flowers, greenery and (most importantly) tomato plants. Three hours later, the mercury had heaved itself up toward 70, spectacular weather turned early autumn into summer. Not indian summer, exactly, given the lack of a killing frost. A global warming pseudo-Indian-summer thingie, maybe. Real damn pretty, whatever the hell it is. Not much in the way of fall foliage color happening yet, thanks to lack of frost. Some nice displays of autumn flowers, though -- partying wildly in this strangely extended growing season. ![]() I continue plodding through preparations for Monday's departure. The couple that'll be taking care of the house while I'm off skipping around the streets of Madrid arrive tomorrow afternoon. The next morning I'm on a bus and out of here. Sometime tomorrow, this computer will be unplugged and stashed in my bedroom for the duration of my time away. Further blathering will follow once I've settled in on the far side of the Atlantic. Later. ********** Courthouse clock tower, late September sky -- Montpelier, Vermont: ![]() Madrid, te echo de menos. rws 7:34 PM [+]
